I had my ipod sitting on top a pile of nails in a box. When I picked it up it was very cold.?

The battery level indicator said it was dead. But after I held it and it warmed up, the battery came back to 50%. I'm not sure, but I think the nails are iron-- they're ordinary wood nails with white paint on them.I had my ipod sitting on top a pile of nails in a box. When I picked it up it was very cold.?
The reason is an ipod is like a cellphone when it get's to cold it will eventually die. Since your Ipod got really cold. The battery started to lose down but when your warmed it up, the battery was back up again.

Example: Say you got an icecube. It was really cold then when you put it out on the sun it will melt but then when you freeze it again, it becomes cold you know what I mean?

HELP?!?
Yeaa wait for it to dry and then use nail vanish remover.. dont try taking it off when its wet or it will just make it worse!

Spilled nail polish remover on granite counter top. That area now ';dull';.. can I restore this?

You might try the stone cleaning products at Home Depot or Lowe's. I use TileLab brand on my slate, granit, porcelin. I'll bet a granite person could buff it, also.

Have you ever noticed that Paula Abdul always wears black nail polish on her fingers in the top 24 through 12?

Yes actually, I did notice that and pointed it out to my family the other day. We all think it's pretty funny!!Have you ever noticed that Paula Abdul always wears black nail polish on her fingers in the top 24 through 12?
well.. her nail polished appeared to be burgundy to me..

  • The white part at the top of my nails is really big!?!?!?

I have longish nails which would look okay if they were pink however only a small amount of them is pink and there is a large amount of white at the top. What is causing this and how do I change it. They have been like this for almost 2 years and I don;t bite them. The white part at the top of my nails is really big!?!?!?
Is the smile line (the line you can see on your nail between the white and pink) in a perfect curve, or are they uneven looking?

If they're uneven, it might have been caused by some medication you were taking in the last 2 years. It means that your nails seperated from your nailbed. If that's the case, you can ask your doctor for 2% chlorophyll to drip into your finger (between the nail and finger) twice a day, and that'll help your nail stick to your nailbed again.

But I really can't give you much advice since I haven't seen them in person. Best solution would be to go to a dermatologist and ask :)

Why is it important to use top and bottom coat while painting your nails?

...Why is it important to use top and bottom coat while painting your nails?
The base coat keeps the nail color from staining your nails as well as providing a smoother surface for the nail color to adhere to.

The top coat keeps the color more vibrant and longer lastingWhy is it important to use top and bottom coat while painting your nails?
It looks better and last longer too. x
base keeps your nails from yellowing (especially with dark colours), top keeps your nail polish from chipping :)
a girl, is correct on this one the base coat helps prevent nails going yellow, top coat provides glossy finish and prevents chipping
The bottom coat helps bond the base color to your nail and the top coat seals the base color so that it won't chip or peel.

Do you use a top coat and or base coat when doing your nails?

I never do a base coat, because I buff and shine my nails before I apply nail polish.

But I always do a top coat, for shine and protection =P

I've been having problem with my top coat messing up my nails I just did, it seem to smudge the color. Even when I wait a loooong time to make SURE that its' completely dry...Do you use a top coat and or base coat when doing your nails?
I recommend using a base coat ONLY. Top coats are usually for manicures, which are often clear, or when you have no nail polish on. Top coats DO mess up your color because they absorb it. I recommend using only a base coat, if you're going to wear nail polish, because it prevents the nail color from chipping and of course, preserves it.Do you use a top coat and or base coat when doing your nails?
my mom is a professional nail artist.... use both top coat and base coat...... it depends on the nail polish or the top coat might be too thick. When the top cot gets thick after a while which happends to all top coats and base coats, it can smudge the nail polish.
I use a Maximum Growth bottom coat and then a clear coat so that way my manicure lasts longer.
always do. it takes me two hours to do my nails.
I use both a base coat and top. Mine never smudges my color though.

My middle finger, left hand top joint (closest to the nail) aches; could this potentially be a health problem?

Hi, I'm a 16 year old healthy female. I don't crack my knuckles and have no irregular habits (includes medication, dieting, etc.). However, the top joint in my middle finger only on my left hand has been hurting mildly for around a year or so. I have not had an injury there or anything unusual. Let me just clarify that it's a very mild pain that I notice when I grip something or press down using that finger. It does not affect me when I do tasks at all, but I notice the aching feeling, and I think it is irregular for someone my age to be having any sort of pains at all. I am particularly worried that it will develop into arthritis or some joint problem when I grow older.

Any explanation towards why I am feeling this in my joint, and anything to solve this problem?

Other info: My parents don't have arthritis (don't think it's hereditary), I get a daily intake of calcium and do not have any other joint/bone problems. I have no diseases, and I have not inquired my doctor because it's not a severe problem, but I will the next time I see her if someone notifies me it could be serious. My middle finger, left hand top joint (closest to the nail) aches; could this potentially be a health problem?
You are never too young to have arthritis. You need to see your doctor!

Is there a special top coat you have to use for acrylic black tip nails?

I love having black french tip nails, but the topcoat I have makes them look purple in the sun.

I remember when I got them professionally done, the lady put some different top coat on the black tip.

So Im wondering if anybody knows of a topcoat that wont make the nail look purpleIs there a special top coat you have to use for acrylic black tip nails?
I think the topcoat you have is a UV topcoat. They tend to give out a purple tint to your nails.

I'd go with OPI's clear top coat. It's lasts a long time and is pretty nice!

Top marks for whoever can nail this one?

. He is always looking at me

2.He told me he loved me more than once

3.He never follows through on his declarations and blames me

4.I keep my distance, he keeps his distance

5.He is confident and flirty with everyone bar me

6.He flirts with younger women in front of me,then acts like he is sorry, then ignores me

7.Told me the ball was in my court to tell him I loved him

8.Acts like a complete stranger around me,so I do the same

9.Always gets me wrong over tiny things I do that have nothing to do with him at all

    10. We argue without words

11.He has actually (though totally out of character) insulted the way I look in public

12.This has been going on for ten years

I have told him that I love him too on a couple of occasions, but when he didn't take control, I acted like nothing happened and kept my distance,to the point of ignoring him.Hence the comment about my place to tell him I love him.

Numbers 11, 5 %26amp; 6- this sounds like he craves control.

From what you've put, it seems like he has the idea he loves you more than you 'love' him, and he is bitter and jealous about that, so he does things that make him seem more powerful and in control. Not healthy, really.

I've had the ';the ball's in your court'; line thrown at me before, which, instead of bringing me closer, like he had wanted. pushed me away, because I felt smothered.

Try talking to him, but if he does not want to know and feels cold with you, you've done all you can do.

Do you nails grow from the bottom or the top?

like does the top bit of your nail grow or is it the bottom and pushes all the nail up?Do you nails grow from the bottom or the top?
omg ... i always wondered about this as a kid...it grows from the bottom and yes, it pushes the rest of the nail up...it is the same for hair -- both hair and nail are actually dead cells...the only living part of them is not really visible....for the hair, it grows from the root that you see when you pull one out...for the nail, it grows from the cuticle...that's why your nails and hair dont hurt when you cut them -- it's coz they're dead...=PDo you nails grow from the bottom or the top?
Fingernails and toenails grow from a point near the roots below the skin, at the base of the nail where the nail is very thin. White in color, and half-moon in shape, this semi-circle is appropriately named the ';lunula,'; and comprises a group of cells that manufacture keratin, a dead, hoof-like protein. The keratin like protein produced, gathers and merges with the nail plate, the dead armor that protects the soft and tender nail bed underneath, and pushes the entire nail up and out. Though the fingernails and toenails grow an average of two inches per year, their growth slows with age, and the average adult's fingernails grow only one inch over the course of eight months.
It pushes the nail up. your cuticle is where the nail grows from, along the base of your finger skin
    its the BOTTOM!
i think its the top, u don't see ur cuticle growing. so i think its the top.

GOOD QUESTION! never thought of that one...
    from the bottom
omg it grows from the bottom!!!!!

Self Manicures - Nail polish and base/top coats?

I like doing my own nails, but I can't seem to find good quality nail polishes and base/top coats that dry quickly. To date, I like using China Glaze nail polish because it dries VERY fast, and I like the variety of colors, but their top coat is way too thick and pulls my nailpolish (the color actually starts to come off my nails).

Can anyone recommend a good quality, fast drying nail polish, and more importantly a good quality, fast drying base/top coat?

Thanks for your help! :o)Self Manicures - Nail polish and base/top coats?
My favorite brand for colors is OPI. They have very rich, pretty colors, and is very high in quality (it DOES NOT chip off). However, like China Glaze, their base/top coat is a little thick. I use something called ';Out the Door'; made by a company called INM.

    http://www.sallybeauty.com/INM-Fast-Top-鈥?/a>

As the name suggests, it dries very quickly, but also is protective. It really gives the nails a good shine, and doesn't affect the coat under it when applying. I really recommend that one.

    I hope I helped!Self Manicures - Nail polish and base/top coats?
The problem is that your nails are too oily when you are applying your base coat. Before even applying the base, use some remover and wipe down all the nails, then use OPI Chip Skip primer, which is a watery, instant-dry formula. After that, use Orly Bonder Base Coat and then after polishing, a good top coat I use is Seche Vite or OPI.
OPI and Essie nail polish. They can be a little expensive,if you want something cheaper Ulta brand nail polish works very well too.

I use Sally Hansen Insta-Dri top coat, it dries the nail polish in about 15 seconds and it leaves a glossy finish that lasts about a week:)

I have some nail decals on can i apply a layer of acrylic over the top to make it last longer?

well i always do lol so go for it i find it last longer

it goes on after, 2 applications which I have seen every time I get a manicure. but in beauty school, we were taught it goes on once before the polish and then again after the polish.
Its like painting a car... primer (base coat), color, then top coat. I always do base coat, but a lot of people don't. Sometimes you need to put on two layers of the nail color too...
you can do it under as well. it makes the paint last longer :P

you should have this evaluated by a dr within 24 hours. the toenails contain hidden germs and bacteria that could have entered your toe and could cause serious infection.

Their not the top part of the fingernail, they're like tiny little dotty specks? Does it mean anything bad and what is it called? What is the white stuff on your finger nails? NOT the top part...?
Medically speaking, those little white marks that sometimes appear as dots or lines on the fingernail are known as leukonychia. There are several possible causes for the discoloration, but the most common are mild trauma, a fungal infection, skin conditions, or nutritional deficiencies. What is the white stuff on your finger nails? NOT the top part...?
Everyone saying it deals with calcium, is wrong.

The ';specks'; on your fingernail are actually small bruises that happen from little things like hitting your fingernail with a hammer. They take 1-2 months to develop, and last anywhere from 3-10 months.
Its where you nail is damaged. I think its called a Cacium Deposit. It can be a sign of a calcium deficiency so boost your calcium and iron supplements to get it to go away.Good luck!
Its actually fingernail bruises, or it can mean your lacking Vitamin K or D i don't remember.
well this might be totally wrong but my mom told me a while ago that it means your body is dairy/calcium deficient. so i guess you should drink some milk! hahaha

I think they're just like nail bruises.

ok i get fills and full sets to and what the gel does is it makes the polish not chip and look brand new...i asked the nail salon y they charge 5 $ extra but they said it stays on...dont let it trick u because wen i got my gel on it started to chip off...well thanks for listening and have a perfect day...good luck...
its a uv top coat is all...its supposed to help the polish to stay on longer and as well for those that may tan it helps prevent the nails from yellowing, but most of the time its just for that ONLY
The only difference I noticed was that they were smoother looking and brighter.

The top of my Dog's Nail is Pulled/Bent back all the way (the nail above the quick), but it is still hanging on at the part that connects to the fir. The quick is not bleeding, its black (instead of pink). But the top part of the nail is just hanging on and hurts my dog when it gets pushed.

I wont have money to take him to the vet for another week or so.

Well you could ask in the Pets section. First aid is for humans.

If its black, it is bleeding. Under the nail, blood goes black. Try a band aid to stop it being pushed back and keep his walks to a minimum.

  • How do I get nail glue off the top of a fake nail?

Ok, so this may sound weird being asked from a guy, but I have a reason. I have read that fake nails work wonders for fingerstyle guitar players, and I found out that this is true. I went out and put fake nails on my fingerpicking hand.

Being the newb I am to fake nails, I accidentally got nail glue on top of a few of them and it make s a griddy noise whenever my nail grazes the string. How do I get the glue off the top of the nail (not remove it) so that it will be as smooth as a fake nail without the glue on top? Or is the answer actually having to remove the nails and put on new ones while being more careful? Will nail polish remover remove the glue on top of the nail? Thanks to all who answer. How do I get nail glue off the top of a fake nail?

I know this sounds weird but go to the nail salon they are trained and know what to do wiht this kinds of stuff. Remember to remind them about the nail and ask them to try to fix it. If your a dude dont feel ashamed to go lots of guys go to the nail salon. Man up and get it fixed.

If your dog will allow this, go ahead and clip the broken piece of nail off. The nail will grow back slowly, and without the hanging piece it wont hurt your dog any more. It really isnt worth a vet visit to have them just clip the nail off. This kind of thing happens all the time. Most of the time, the dog chews it off, or it breaks off as they are out romping. It may bleed some more, but not a real issue.Top of Dog's Nail is Pulled/Bent back all the way, but still hanging on. Besides $100 vet visit what can i do?
your going to have to take him to the vet let what ever bill it is wait another week or talk to your vet and see if you can make arrangements most will post date a check go to a check writing place and borrow pawn something get out your credit card take the dog to the vet
Do you have claw clippers? If so, snip it in front of the fur. If the nail is cracked through the quick already, he should be fine.
The vet will simply clip it off quickly and apply a styptic pencil for bleeding. If it seems infected they will either give antibiotics or use an antibiotic salve. You don't need a hundred dollar vet appt to fix this. Just clip it off.
Clip off whatever part of the nail is hanging so that it does not get snagged and get worse. It may heal on it's own - just see how it is in a week and don't let him get it dirty so that it does not get infected.
I n the mean time you can keep it bandaged to keep it clean and dry. If the quick is black it's probably due to the age of the wound. This is a wound that can become infected and be bad if you don't get it treated. I'm sure it does hurt your dog. Think of how you would feel if your fingernail was bent back and you were unable to correct the matter, couldn't cut it off or put it back in the original position. Wrapping up you dogs paw will keep him from licking it, trying to make it feel better, and keep it clean, which is very important. Sometimes antibiotics are necessary. When you bandage his paw make sure the bandage keeps clean and dry also. If the bandage gets wet you will need to change it as needed.

All of this is a temporary fix until you can get him to the vet.

    Good luck

What top coat to apply on nails before applying rhinestone's?

can i use crazy glue to glue them on?

also can i use artificial nails to glue them on?the ones that you buy at rid aid for 5.00 dollars? What top coat to apply on nails before applying rhinestone's?
What I do is, I apply the topcoat and wait for it to dry very well (about 30-40 minutes), then apply the stones with NAIL glue. Not super glue, because super glue is harmful to your skin and it can melt the silver plating on the rhinestone so it wont shine very well.

I highly discourage using glue-on artificial nails. They not only look bad, but if you have any air bubbles underneath the nail and moisture gets trapped in, you could get fungus. What top coat to apply on nails before applying rhinestone's?
I wouldn't use crazy glue because that crap is bad for your cuticles.
    you can use nail glue.

but just the wet nail polish would work pretty well.
You could use nail glue but that stuff always leaves my nails a mess afterwards. I use rhinestones a lot on my nails and i tend to use a clear nail varnish. It's worked fine for me so far (: However if you want the rhinestones on for a while (for me its more than a week) then i would recommend glue as it is stronger and will probably keep them on longer (im not 100% sure though cos i get bored quickly and change gems often so have never needed to use gluee ) =D

Yes, you can. In fact, this is exactly what you're supposed to use to prevent staining. And it won't do any harm either as far as how well your polish will stay on.

  • What does it mean when your nails begin to chip off the top layer?

It starts at the tip and it's almost like the top layer peels off. Am I dehydrated?? Or vitamin defitient? What does it mean when your nails begin to chip off the top layer?
Flaking nails are caused by exposure to water. Water soaks into the nails and as it evaporates it weakens the nail %26amp; takes away the nails' protective oils.

Do not use a nail clipper. Only use a nail file to shape and shorten them. Protect your nails with thicker moisturizers to protect them from exposure to water which dries them out %26amp; makes them brittle.

Try Revlon's disposable files made for weak nails. File in one direction only. Start on one side and file towards the middle, then go to the other side and file towards the middle of your nail. Smooth the nail into a squoval that mirrors you cuticle or the shape of the white part of your nail bed. Avoid filing down the sides of the nail.

Finish the edges of the nail with a hindo stone, a smooth ceramic/stone nail file or the finest grit nail file you can find. You want to make the edges really smooth.

Also, avoid using metal nail files. I recommend using disposable nail files and changing them frequently. The fresher the grit, the less the drag which leads to tearing and peeling.

I also use a cuticle balm or nail oil to moisturize my nails and protect them from water since I wash my hands frequently.

    (ex. Solar Oil, OPI Avoplex)

Vit E oil, jojoba oil, Aquaphor Healing Ointment, Vaseline or plain Chapstick will work too.

Avoid products w/ formaldehyde or toluene, they are very hard on nails.

If you are not eating a balanced diet consider taking vitamins. Some women swear by taking pre-natal vitamins. What does it mean when your nails begin to chip off the top layer?
I have this problem when my nails are weak. I don't think it's due to dehydration; although it could be vitamin deficiency. In my experience, though - it tends to happen more when I'm stressed, for whatever reason.

There's this amazing product by Neo Strata that works great. My mom had the same problem and she used every product form Mavella to all the other brands. use sally hansen hard as nails nailpolish or try taking calcium pills!! They will make them stronger and besides it good for you!!
take a look at products you handle on a routine basis, such as copy paper and consider using healthcare type gloves. The chemicals we come in contact with daily are murder on our nails. Also, contrary to popular belief, a lot of over the counter nail polishes and clear coats will actually eat away at the layers of your nails.

Can you use a base coat as a top coat for your nails?

I already did... is that okay? Can you use a base coat as a top coat for your nails?

It might not provide the exact same results, but it's not like it's going to melt your nails.

I mean, if you wear it BEFORE polish, why would it cause any adverse reaction OVER the polish? Can you use a base coat as a top coat for your nails?
It doesn't do the same action but yeah.. you won't die. Don't go crazy or anything.
Yeah. You're not gonna die or anything, don't worry.

When painting nails and top coat?

Is it better to paint a top coat on nails after colored polish has dried or while it's still slightly wet? When painting nails and top coat?
They can still be wet. I;ve never had any problem doing it that way. When painting nails and top coat?
After. If it's slightly wet the tip of the topcoat brush may change to the color you've painted with. Use Out the Door, it's the best top coat I've used.
You should put on the top coat after it has dried because when you but on the top coat while it is even a little wet, it can get messed up.
after, definitely b/c if it's still wet the brush marks might leave imprints in your nail polish
    after!

Which is better acrylic or gel I want to get my natural nails done with a top coat heavier then nail polish!?

I was just at the nail salon this weekend and had that exact question. The lady said that the gel was better for people that are sensitive to chemicals. And she said that they do not use the drill tool thing for the gel nails like they do for the acrylics. I suggest getting the gels done, but I do know they cost a bit more.

Good Luck!Which is better acrylic or gel I want to get my natural nails done with a top coat heavier then nail polish!?
well u can definatly get a silk wrap if u want to keep ur natural nails and if u want to get them to be stronger but gel is good too personally i like my nails silk wrapped.Which is better acrylic or gel I want to get my natural nails done with a top coat heavier then nail polish!?
I don't use either. I use something called glaze. It is like a really thin acrylic, but your nails don't get beat up nearly as bad. I looks more natural, too.
i prefer acrylic. they last longer and in my opinon are stronger. I used to wear acrylic tips and worked as a painter, and prepper in the auto body business and had no problems keeping them on.
I'd go with the gel. It has a heavier coating (and it seems like thats what you want.)

Hey crafty people, what are the metal nails/hooks that go through these pendants called? (nail bottom/loop top

or something similar, not necessarily twisted at the top, but with a nail head type bump bottom? Used to make necklaces, earrings, and other craftsHey crafty people, what are the metal nails/hooks that go through these pendants called? (nail bottom/loop top
Those are called headpins. You can get inexpensive (not high quality) ones at Michaels or other craft store. If you want to make higher quality jewelry, I recommend one of these online sites to get your findings:

    www.artbeads.com

    www.fusionbeads.com

    www.limabeads.com

Good luck!Hey crafty people, what are the metal nails/hooks that go through these pendants called? (nail bottom/loop top
As mentioned, those are ';head pins';... they look like regular ';silk ';sewing pins but are more bendable, and the shank is often much longer.

In this case, a small bead has been placed above the head of the head pin to act as a decoration and probably also as a ';stop'; to plug a too-wide hole in the bead so the head of the head pin won't just slip right up through the bead.

After the head pin has been threaded with the tiny bead and then the larger bead, a loop is made at the top end of the larger bead so that the whole unit can then be attached to something else. In this case, it's a ';wrapped'; loop, but could just be a plain loop.

If you want to learn how to make those shapes with headpins (or ';eye pins,'; which are the same thing but have a loop where the head pin has a head --again so something can be hung from it as well), check out this page at my site:

    http://glassattic.com/polymer/wire.htm

(... click on ';Basic Wire Shapes';...)

That section also tells how to make head pins, of one type anyway.

    HTH,

    Diane B.
Headpins. These have a ';wrapped loop'; made after the beads were put on them.
yep, they are called Head Pins. You can also use ball pins or other fancy head pins for beading. If you are looking for Sterling silver or gold vermeille pins (fancy or not). check out www.stonesandfindings.com . They have great selections.
You may be referring to a ';head pin'; for the flat bottoms, and ';eye pin'; for looped bottom pins or a ';bail'; for pendants.

There are many types of bails but almost all head pins are the same. Some may have fancier bottoms with a decorative ';head';. The difference between head pins and eye pins is that head pins have a flat end and eye pins have a looped end.

Bails can also be used to hold pendants but can be attached to other findings such as head pins and eye pins.

    I hope this helps you.
My friend sells the high quality ones, I use them for my bookmarks, once you use hers you wouldn't want any other ones. She sells on wagglepop.com her user ID is uneeksam or her store is Silver Charm Liquidators. You won't be disappointed.
Those are called decorative head pins and can be found at most craft or beading supply stores or on-line sites. You can also make one yourself by adding a small spacer bead to a regular head pin before adding the bead.

  • What are the pros and cons of acrylic nails? And can someone explain how they apply them on top of your nails?

I'm not sure about the exact chemical composition, but I wear gel nails which are similar, some say shinier and more durable.

First, the nail tech will first prepare your nails by buffing them down to take the ridges off and create a smoother texture. Then they will cut them down to the length of the tips of your fingers. They will then select the nail tips (which will make them as long as you want them), either white for a french manicure or natural. They will use a tiny little dot of a super-glue like nail glue to affix the tip to your nail. Then, they will put a chemical on your nail that will make the acrylic/gel mixture adhere better. If they don't do this, the natural oils in your nail will make the acrylic lift off. Also, this typically has anti-fungal agents, in case moisture gets under the acrylic, that should help prevent infections.

Next is to apply the actual gel/acrylic. They will dip their brush in a liquid chemical, then scoop up a little bit of powder. It will immediately turn into a gel, and they will brush this from the base of your nails all the way over the fake tips they just applied. They will shape it into a nail. This is the 'acrylic' part. Really good technicians will do a good job of this while still keeping the thickness minimal. That, to me, is the sign of a good nail technician, if they can keep them reasonably thin-looking despite all the layers of acrylic.

Then they will use regular nail files and this little Dremel-like electric tool to further shape the nails. If your nail beds get too hot while they're using the electric tool, be sure to tell the technician. Good ones should know.

If you're just doing acrylics, they will then paint your choice of color and clear top coat.

For gel nails, they will then paint on two coats of a UV-activated gel that will make them very shiny. Then you put them under a UV lamp for a few minutes to set. These are great, because they look good, last long, and don't chip. You can put a color on top of the gel as well if you get tired of the french manicure.

Gels are a little more expensive, but not much, and I think it's worth it for the durability. A full set of gels can run between $25 - $40. Full set of acrylics can be just a little bit less. I don't know if it's true, but I heard that the gel chemicals let your real nail breathe a little more than the old acrylics.

Either way, the pros are the look and the strength - my nails are naturally very weak, and I travel a lot, and they are always breaking off and look bad. With gels, they don't break, and the nail polish does not chip like it does on the natural nail (again, from the oils) because it too is chemical and adheres to the acrylic/gel. Because I make my living making presentations to corporations, to me it is worth the cost and maintenance to have gels.

The cons are that the health of your real nails can be compromised. For me, mine naturally are thin and grow crooked anyway. When you do eventually take them off, your real nails will be soft and thin and it will take several months for them to get back to their previous strengh.

Another con is the maintenance and cost - depending on how fast your nails grow, you will have to get them filled about every week and a half - 2 weeks. There will be a space at the bottom of your nail where there's no acrylic and the real nail shows through. Your cuticle will pull back a bit and you'll end up with a little channel between the acrylic and your cuticle. It's really annoying and doesn't look very good, so you want to be sure to stay on top of it. Fills can be $15 - $20 avg. They can also change your polish color, shorten, or fix any problems while you're there for the fill.

One thing to note, and I file this under ';cons'; - my least favorite part - is removing a set and getting a new set. The best salons will cut down the nails short, cut any loose nails, and have you soak your nails for a good long time in a chemical to dissolve them - and I mean 15 - 20 minutes. Once softened, they will try to remove them by sliding a new nail tip between your real fingernail (which, remember, is all soft and weak now) and the exising acrylic. This can be painful. Depending on how sensitive you are, how soft your nails are, and how gentle the technician is, this can be a fairly unpleasant experience. Personally, I dread it and put it off for as long as possible. I also take a few Advil an hour before going, and warn the technician that my nail beds are sensitive. This is what they mean about suffering to be beautiful...

Also, while they are removing nails, or if you have an accident and break one, it is possible to crack your real nail underneath (which is extremely painful) and get a fungal infection under the nail. This is bad. If you suspect a nail is loose and you have moisture underneath, get thee to a salon pronto and tell them.

So I know it sounds like a nightmare, but I just wanted to give you the full 360 degrees. I personally, have not suffered any broken real nails or infections. But they are common. My sister has 2 right now. Like I said, you have to weigh your priorities. For me right now, I need my hands to look presentable at a moment's notice. I can't really do that without acrylics, and my job affords me that luxury. Decide what's important to you, and give it a try.

If you put a set on, and hate it, you can have it taken off. I would wait 2 weeks until you need your first fill, then tell them you want to soak the nails off. Your nails will be weak, but not as bad as if you've been wearing them for a year.

Good luck! What are the pros and cons of acrylic nails? And can someone explain how they apply them on top of your nails?
    Pros:

    They look beautiful

    people compliment you

    makes you feel girly

absolutely totally girly if you have them (which is ok)

    Cons:

    totally ruin your nails

    difficult to get off

need to be redone often or else they grow on your nail

they use a liquid called acrylic and it pretty much is like super duty nail glue they paint it on like paint and bam you ahve acrylic nails if you call a salon they explain it better. What are the pros and cons of acrylic nails? And can someone explain how they apply them on top of your nails?
    Pros:

    1. Your nails look awesome.

    2. The nail polish doesn't chip.

    3. Having longer nails makes your fingers appear longer.

    4. You look well-kept.

    Cons:

    1. If you have an itch, the fake nails are so dull that it doesn't satisfy it the way real nails do.

    2. You shouldn't do dishes because the water can get stuck under the acrylic and cause an infection and the nails can start coming off.

    3. It definitely takes maintenance. You have to get them done every 2 weeks at about $20 a pop that can add up.

    4. It's not good for your nails.

Now, how do they get them to stick to your nails:

They first grind your real nails really thin using a tiny cylindrical shaped piece of metal that's attached to the end of some kind of tool. The tool is operated by a pedal that makes the metal file spin really fast and it shaves off a lot of nail. Then they glue to just the tips of your nails fake nails, like the kind you can buy at Walgreen's or something. Then they have the acrylic which is this white powder mixed with some other kind of chemical and they mix the two and it forms a paste and they apply it to the entire nail including the fake one and it dries quickly. They then sand it down and make it all nice and smooth and paint it and VOILA. If I had the money to maintain them I would definitely get them again. I suggest going for it.

Why are the tops of peoples nail white?

is it because of the air?Why are the tops of peoples nail white?
    Nope, it's not the air.

Your fingernails are made of a hardened protein called keratin (this is also the same protein found in skin and hair - hair isn't ';dead protein'; as a lot of people think it is, it's this keratin that makes up your nails as well). Your nails themselves are made up of nine parts:

    1) Nail Plate 鈥?this is the part you see when you look at your fingernails, the most visible part of the nail; hard and translucent, composed of keratin.

    2) Nail Folds 鈥?the skin that frames and supports the nails on three sides, the base of the nail and the sides that aren't the tip.

    3) Nail Bed 鈥?the adherent connective tissue found beneath the nail plate (often referred to as ';the quick';).

    4) Cuticle (eponychium) 鈥?the tissue that overlaps the nail plate at the base of the nail (proximal end of the nail).

    5) Surrounding Skin (paronychium) - these are the folds of skin on the sides of the nails - they surround the base and sides of the nail.

    6) Lunula 鈥?the whitish half-moon shape found at the base of the nail bed.

    7) Matrix 鈥?the part of the nail hidden under the cuticle, where the nail actually grows from.

    8) Hyponychium - the attachment between the skin of the finger and the tip of the nail (the distal end of the nail).

    9) Free-Edge - this is actually the part of the nail (the tip, if you will) that grows beyond the ends of your fingers.

The nails grow from the matrix, and what you鈥檙e actually seeing when you look at your fingernails are the older cells. In the course of growth, new cells are produced in the matrix. The older cells are pushed out toward your fingertips to make room for the new cells. In this process, the old cells become hardened and compacted, and flatten out to form the standard fingernail shape. The nail itself (the nail plate - which is what is more often than not being referred to when people talk about just their nails in general) is a white-translucent color, but while the nail is growing and hasn't grown past the Hyponychium yet, the nail will appear pink (as are the color of your nail beds), but once the nail grows past the Hyponychium and extends into Free-Edge land (lol, don't mind me), the keratin in the nail hardens even more (it's a chemical reaction to the lack of blood supply plus the extra oxygen surrounding the nail tip once it surpasses the edge of your finger) and that same translucent semi-whitish nail that was completely pink on your nail bed will harden and darken once it becomes Free-Edge.

And that, my friend, is why the tips of people's nails are white :)Why are the tops of peoples nail white?
Its the way the cuticles are pact together. There pack so tight it turn to top of your nail white.
No, it's the part of the nail that is dead.
    because there not black! (:

Why do you have to put a top coat of nail polish on?

I was told that you should put a bottom coat of nail polish on then the color then the top coat and every time i do that the nail polish start to chip off after a couple of days why is that because any time i did my nail i didn't put a bottom coat of nail polish on or a top coat and it last allot longer why does it chip after a couple of days if you put the top and bottom coat onWhy do you have to put a top coat of nail polish on?
so the nail polish does not ruin your nails. and the op coat it supposed to keep it on longerWhy do you have to put a top coat of nail polish on?
the bottom coat, which is the base coat is applied because it helps from staining your nail plate %26amp; the top coat usually seals the nail polish for it to last longer plus it'll make your nail polish more glossy looking.

%26amp; if your nail polish is chipping, maybe you're doing something a lot w/ your hands, like washing the dishes or w/e.

No bacteria, was on antibiotic, dog still has red rash around top of nails. Now on 3 nails. What can I do?

Has your veterinarian done a fungal analysis? THAT should be your next step! A skin scrapping sent off to the lab!No bacteria, was on antibiotic, dog still has red rash around top of nails. Now on 3 nails. What can I do?
Soak his nails in the regular old brown Listerine a couple times a day, every day til they clear up. You can soak your own fingernails/toe-nails in it too, to remove the funus. No bacteria, was on antibiotic, dog still has red rash around top of nails. Now on 3 nails. What can I do?
Well, this is kinda a no brainer.....take him to the vet. If your current vet can't offer a diagnosis, then as with people...you get a 2nd opinion.
fungus (think of athletes foot, but on a dog).

the cheapest/easiest way to treat this is to use the cream that comes in the kits for female yeast infections. The active ingredients are identical to what your vet would prescribe. If possible, try to also cover the area after applying the cream so that the dog can't lick it.

DO NOT use listerine as this will just dry the skin, making it crack, and allow the fungus to penetrate deeper. Listerine does not have a sufficient %ethanol to kill fungus.

What is different between topCoat or basecoat with shine nail polish? howmany color is there for base or top?

The base coat is usually a clear nail polish that most brands say will either hold the colored polish better or won't let the colored polish stain your nail. I've seen a few base coat polishes that have a pinkish tint that actually looks great if you want a natural nail color. A top coat nail polish is always clear and sometimes it's a speedy drying polish, and it's considered ';chip resistant'; which helps your colored nail polish last longer. What is different between topCoat or basecoat with shine nail polish? howmany color is there for base or top?
the base coat is usually the color your useing. u would want to do two coats. %26amp; then the top coat is usually clear; or clear w/ sparkles. the top coats prevents the color from chipping.

have you ever had a nail pulled off leaving the nail bed exposed? well if not then i'll tell you the nail bed itslef is bright red from all the capileries feeding it snd it appears pink due to a layer of semi-opaque white nail growing over/ from it. so when it doens have the nail bed underneath it it shows you its true colours xxWhy are the top of our nails white while the rest is transparent?

Do you feel if Obama comes out on top in the Debate tonight that it may be the nail in the coffin for Hillary?

    Absolutely!

    look here ....

http://www.judicialwatch.org/judicial-wa鈥?/a>Do you feel if Obama comes out on top in the Debate tonight that it may be the nail in the coffin for Hillary?
Well, this is going to be good. I am of the mind that neither will come out unscathed. You can believe that Hillary will show up armed. She will have damaging things to say about Obama, he will be forced to deny them. Later, he will have to explain and be proven a liar if they are true. If they are not they will still be out there with their own legs.

This debate cannot be of use to Obama and offers Hillary a load of opportunities to damage him. What can he use against her? She is full of baloney? She is a Clinton. Her husband was full of baloney, too. We all know that. We have known her a long time.

But Obama? Now there is a blank canvas that needs a bit of filling in. What else is yet to be revealed? I suspect he is the one having sleepless nights.

Don't be surprised if she pulls some brand new skeletons out of the Obama closet. Ones he is unprepared to address. We already know he does not think on his feet well.

*Do you feel if Obama comes out on top in the Debate tonight that it may be the nail in the coffin for Hillary?
Hillary won't quit. She's hoping to steal the nomination in Denver.

The fact that she can't see the majority of people standing up for change, tells me she only wants to shove her lies down the throats of the american people, but I am not swallowing it.

I can't wait to see them drag her useless carcass off the politial stage.
no because i think obama will just go through the motion in this debate it's not a national debate it only for pa.voters . obama don't have to get nasty with hillary just let her finish what she have started killing her own campaign with the negatives isuses
    Debate? About exactly what?

Both Democrat candidates offer the exact same socialistic agenda, there is nothing really to debate about if you look at it realistically

And either one who ';wins'; the nomination will lose to McCain in the general election
The nail is already in the coffin, but she keeps turning into mercury and seeping out through the cracks like the bad guy from Terminator.
No, the last nail in Clinton's coffin will be driven in North Carolina, although I have a strange feeling it might be driven after PA.
I sure hope so. I disagree with the guy above, though. Hillary's got way more negative stuff on her than Obama. (See: Snipergate.)
No. I don't think too many people vote based on the debates and there have been so many of them that I don't think that many people watch them any more.
He wont, Obama doesnt debate well and theres toooooo much out there against him right now that will put him into the dirt tonight.
We want Obama . oh yes we do. we want to sink him. oh yes we do.
one would hope so, but Hillary has already said she doesnt care what voters say. she is counting on those superdelegates.
Definitely. I certainly hope she walks out with her tail between her legs. She's an embarrassment.
Depends if he can read the tele-prompter correctly or repeat everything Hilary says in reverse order.
The poll said a majority of Americans now believe Clinton is dishonest.
I believe both of them are campaigning for no good reason. They're both going to lose.
YES SIR!!!! As soon as you see her turning red, with that fake corsp smile. Riggamortis is setting in.
I feel Obama doesnt have a chance if people will only listen to his bogus answers!
    No

If you are talking about the side edge of the nail, you need to trim it off as closely as possible. Cuticle scissors may suffice. Is it just me or does Top Coat make your nails chip faster?

I have tried not using Top Coat after being sick of my nails chipping after 1 day.

I found that they chipped less?

    Does anyone else agree?

I have used both cheap and expensive Top Coat and the same thing happens? Is it just me or does Top Coat make your nails chip faster?
I have found that happens on some clients. Do what works best for your nails. Don't worry about a top coat if the polish adheres better without it.

It could be that you are applying the polishes too thick. Is it just me or does Top Coat make your nails chip faster?
If top coat is making your nails chip faster, try applying the top coat first (like as a base coat)....or you can buy special bottom coat polishes. It makes a huge difference! There are also bottom-and-top coats available in one bottle, where you can use it as a bottom and top coat. The better brands can be a bit pricey...around 10 bucks...but it's totally worth it if you are constantly reapplying nail polish. I highly recommend Essie's ';to dry for'; clear polish.
They should not be chipping. Make sure you clean your nail bed from all oils before applying your base coat. Put on your 2 coats of polish and one coat of top coat. You should not have any chipping for about a week. A lot does depend on what kind of products you are using. I f you would like some recommendations you can email me.
Yeah, same for me. I think it's because the thicker the layer(s) of polish on your nail, the easier it is to get caught and chipped on stuff.
mine dont chip. maybe try putting a base coat on first.
I thought I was the only one!

I use it all the time for a top coat, not sure about for base, i'm pretty sure I had it on and just decided to leave it on a put another color over it, should work fine.
Absolutely. Using it as a base coat makes sure your nails don't get stained a yellowish color and using it as a top coat keeps the colored nailpolish on for longer without it chipping :)
    Yes..

If you wear a colored polish its always good to apply a clear coat before to prevent yellowing nails. And a clear coat on top to help seal the color polish.
yes yes! i always do that!

what is the white stuff on your nails that is immated my a french manicure? What is the white stuff on top of your nails?
it's just the color of your nail, but since it doesn't really have anything behind it, like th rest of the nail that looks clear, it shows up whitish. no, your nail is not bi-colored.What is the white stuff on top of your nails?
    dandruff?
its your nails. it is sometimes natural to have white colored nails. possibly healthier than the average brown. i no, i want them too! lol
It is still your nail it just appears white when it grows past the top of the finger. The rest of your nail looks pinkish because the skin is behind it, giving it that color. The white illusion of the top of your nails that is immitated by a french manicure is just supposed to look Clean.

Top layers of nails keep peeling off, how do i stop it?

there r like little layers of my nails peeling off. how do i get it to stop? i file the tops of my nails and that works for a little while but then it just starts again.Top layers of nails keep peeling off, how do i stop it?
    Hi,

Make sure you use an emery board (not a metal file), and file in one direction, that's gentler. I also had this problem so I bought Sally Hansen Hard As Wraps, and it seals and stops the peeling so your nails can keep growing without having to cut them all the time. And be sure to seal the edges of your nail with whatever you put on it (polish, hardener, etc.) Hope that helps :)

*note: You have to keep either nail hardener or polish on your nails to protect them. Once it's off, your nails are vulnerable again.Top layers of nails keep peeling off, how do i stop it?
Massage moisturiser into them before bed each night should help

    Also cuticle oils,

And when your working with chemicals, wear gloves
get a nail polish with vitamin E and hardening crap in it. it works like a charm :)

    A good nail polish/base coat/top coat?

I have boys' hockey tryouts this weekend, and I want to paint my nails. But all the nail stuff I have peels off as soon as I have been on the ice for two hours sweating alot. Do you know any nail polish, or base coat, or top coat that wil not come off even when you sweat really bad? Please and thank you.A good nail polish/base coat/top coat?
    Try:

OPI Natural Nail Base Coat (Step 1)

OPI Nail Envy (Original) (Step 2)

    OPI Top Coat (Step 3)

    **Apply one coat of each**

Develop 10 (Original Strengthening Formula) is also very good!A good nail polish/base coat/top coat?
If you play hard, the paint will come off no matter what. A good way to get good-looking nails without the mess is to:

Get a buffer and a white nail pencil. File your nails to a nice shape. Clean under the nails and use the white pencil to color the undersides. Then buff the tops of the nails until they are polished and shiny. It will make your nails look like they are naturally perfect.

As long as you are okay without color, this works like a charm. Save the color for weekends.
    revlon
Sally Hansen all the way, it cost a little more, but it won't chip, Try Diamond Shine, this grew my real nails so long and strong!
Revlon has a new product called ColorStay. When I paint my nails normally, it chips off the next day. I painted them with ColorStay and they lasted FIVE days. This is unheard of for me, so I always use it now. I even bring it in when I'm getting a manicure because it lasts longer than Opi or Essie.

The thing is, its expensive, and they don't have the widest variety. But if you like it and it works, try the ColorStay lipstick -- stays on all night, I swear!
    OPI

    have u tried O.P.I
O.P.I is a great nail polish it doesn't peel even when I have been in the lake for 6 hours at a time. Try it you will love it.
I use a top coat called ';Seche Vite';, it's the best one around. I think you can find it at CVS.
I work out quite a bit and I love Opi it's great. Be sure to wipe your nails with acetone polish remover first to get the oil off. Then use bonder, polish, then 2 coats of topcoat. Be sure to put topcoat on the outer edge of your nail to seal it well so it doesn't chip as easily. Hope this helps. Good luck with your nails and your tryouts.
if u put more than two coats it will come off try doing atleast one or two.
    OPI products are great.

Can you use nail polish remover to clean the top of a ds or will it eat the plastic?

can you use nail polish remover to clean the top of a ds or will it eat the plastic as i had my ds skin on ages and i would like to get the sticky stuff offCan you use nail polish remover to clean the top of a ds or will it eat the plastic?
To do this you'll need the following:

鈥?1 can of Brasso or Silvo (Both work just fine, but I use Silvo due do how much I use it for everything else).

鈥?2 rags or other type of lintfree cloth.

鈥?A few LCD cleaning wipe or alcohol wipes.

There are two way of doing this, but since one voids the warranty, I won't go into detail on it. All you do is take the rag and put a few drops of polish on it. Then rub it in a circular motion in the clear area of the faceplate. Do this untill about half of the scratches aren't noticeable, then rub the other direction.

Once all the scratches aren't visible, wipe the polish off the ds using the clean cloth. Be sure to wipe up, away from the buttons, or you'll have a dust problem with the dried polish getting inside the ds. Once it's all cleaned up, allow the residue to dry and clean it up with an alcohol wipe.

Now your ds is scratch free and all clean. Can you use nail polish remover to clean the top of a ds or will it eat the plastic?
    only use non-acetone!
acetone would be a baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad idea.

try rubbing alcohol or baby oil first
i dont want to be the one to try

Nail polish/ top coat/ strengthener Questions?

I have just recently stopped chewing my nails and have been over painting them so they're pretty dry. What is the difference between putting a regular top coat, regular nail polish and a strengthening coat.

Also, I was wondering if those coats that claim to make your nails grow faster actually work.

What are the negative effects of using a 7 sided nail buffer stick. Does it make them weak?

How do you keep the tips clean? The underside of my nails are really dirty and I've never run across this problem since my nails have never been this long.

How often is it healthy to paint my nails? I don't want to over dry them.

How unhealthy is nail polish remover?

THANKS! I know that's a lot but I just have all these questions. :] You can answer as many or little as you'd like. Incite and examples are welcomed.Nail polish/ top coat/ strengthener Questions?
    WOW!

    lostsa questions.

    first Q:

a top-coat is usually a clear, polish-like substance that you are supposed to put over your normal coat of nail polish after it dries.

regular nail polish is just, well, regular nail polish. the more coats, the darker, but i advise against more than two coats. three could work, but that's a bit risky. then, if you put more than two, sometimes it wont even dry completely no matter how long you fan them.

a strengthening coat is the exact same as a top-coat, except for it sounds more intriguing because it sounds like it would protect your nails from damage better. it doesn't.

    second Q:

no, those advertisements are completely false. no nail polish or coats make your nails grow faster. the only reason why it may seem that way is because when you put your nail polish on, your nails may be shorter because you just trimmed them. then, a week later when you remove the nail polish, your nails have naturally grown at their same pace, it's just you notice it more.

    third Q:

yes, it does weaken your nails, but it really depends. honestly, it's obvious that it would weaken your nails even a little, because every single side brushes or scrapes away SOME part of the nail. for example, the buffer takes off a very thin layer of nail on top to make the nail shiny. but really, as long as you're not using it more than twice a week, it will make no difference whatsoever.

    fourth Q:

buy a nail-clipper at CVS or something. it's not only a nail clipper, but it also has a little, tiny knife-looking object that you can swing forward, and it scrapes underneath your nails without hurting you, because it's hardly sharper than a butter knife. if you can't find a nail-clipper (i cant see why not, ask your mom or something) then any sturdy, thin object will serve its purpose for scraping under your nails.

    fifth Q:

it is healthy to paint your nails every other week. i would suggest painting them one sunday, keeping it on for a week, and then removing it the next, and go without nail polish for a week, and so on... as long as you wash your hands regularly (with soap!) and use some kind of hand lotion, then you're good to go with the dryness problem. but it's still good to give your nails a break.

    sixth Q:

nail polish remover is perfectly healthy. mostly it's just rubbing alcohol with some other harmless fluids mixed in.

i hope my info was valuable to you! :)

If my finger nail is blue and the top is red should i see a doctor?

If you squished or hit it, no. It's just bruised. Not a problem.

If it gets infected, or it's turning blue for some reason unknown, yeah, see a dottore. If my finger nail is blue and the top is red should i see a doctor?
no, you should see a red and blue fingernail. what have you been smoking!!If my finger nail is blue and the top is red should i see a doctor?
hurry and see a doctor same thing happened
    paint them purple.
It would help to even go to a chemist so that they can pierce the finger under the nail to release the pressure which causes the swelling and the red in the finger
Sounds like you don't have enough blood flow to your hands.

    Yeah, see a doctor.
i think so, but i really think you should stay out of your moms make-up kit
Do you remember hitting your finger or jamming it in some way? That could cause your nail to bruise, thus resulting in the blue-red color. Just to be safe, I'd check it out with the doctor to make sure it's not an infection.
i guess doesnt seem importent but do wht ever people say :)
Its just going to fall off. It will grow again.

Base coat + Nail polish + Top coat = Disaster!!!? HELP!!!?

When I gave myself a manicure recently, I added a base coat and top coat so the polish would last longer.Well, it didn't last long, it just came peeling off a few days later. The trouble was, only about half of the polish on each nail peeled off, so my nails looked quite ugly with half of the nail covered with polish and the other half with no polish. So I tried taking all the polish off with my nail polish remover, but it didn't come off! I put my fingers under hot water and tried scraping it off with my other nails, and only then did a little bit of polish come off. After about 2 hours, I managed to finally take off all the polish. But scraping it off hurt a little, so I'd much rather take it off with polish remover. Why didn't it last longer, and didn't come off with polish remover? Well maybe it's because the remover/top%26amp;bast coat was a dollar each, lol. But if I buy and use a more expensive, a little more trusted remover, etc., and I give myself a manicure w/ base/top coat again,Base coat + Nail polish + Top coat = Disaster!!!? HELP!!!?
I had always do my own nails. Never a disaster. To acheive good finishing, i suggest you invest a little on the quality ones.

Good base / top coat does make different. You can use the base coat as top coat as well. If i did not do any chores at home, my nail polish can easily last for a week.Base coat + Nail polish + Top coat = Disaster!!!? HELP!!!?
Cheap nail polish is the root of the problem.

I have a suggestion for you, but it cost 20 bucks.

Go to the nail salon and have your fingernails done there. I never do mine at home. It's a pain in the behind.
yeah cheap polish sucks, but for some reason seems so enticing when your at the store. i like doing my own nails too, i don't like paying someone to do something i can do myself. i like opi and sally hansen polishes. i only use the polish and a top coat. i don't do the whole base coat deal. i just buff my nails really well.
Your problem? Not waiting enough time between coats, if you don't wait enough time between it will be even more of a disaster then if you only used one layer of the regular polish. You need to wait a few hours, or to the point where you could take a nail and press it into another nail and it wouldn't leave a mark. Good luck next time!

I cut my foot on the top of a nail the other day in our house. I dont think It was rusty. do i get tetanus jab

If you haven't had a shot in the past five years, it is recommended you do. Read below:

If you have a dirty cut or wound and have not had a tetanus shot in the last 5 years, have a tetanus shot within 48 hours. Some people may need tetanus immune globulin (TIG) for a wound that is at high risk for developing tetanus. The immune globulin is usually only needed if you have not (or do not know whether you have) completed the tetanus vaccination series.I cut my foot on the top of a nail the other day in our house. I dont think It was rusty. do i get tetanus jab
Whether it was rusty or not, it is better to get a tetanus injection.I cut my foot on the top of a nail the other day in our house. I dont think It was rusty. do i get tetanus jab
If you like having that toe, get a tetanus shot. They last 10 years now.
    probly
    yes....be on the safe side....
    Can't hurt not too.
Clean it real good and put antiboctic on it if you have'nt had a tetanus shot in the last 5 yrs call your doctor you may not be still be protected agains't gangreen infection.
keep the cut clean. wash it out daily with soap and water. you can apply a thin layer of neosporin to it as long as it's not a huge open cut. apply a gauze square to it to keep the neosporin from rubbing off.

a tetanus shot is necessary if you haven't had one in the past ten years. it will protect you from serious infection.
don't know, i've stepped on a few nails before, and i'll be damned if i ever go get a tetanus shot...lol
    under 5 years...yes

    over 5 years......no.
    Absolutely yes...
If you have not had a recent tetanus shot you should get one. Keep the wound clean and use some antibiotic ointment .
Only if you haven't had one in the last five years... and you should get it within the first 48 hours.

I would go see your family doctor about it.
Anything that punctures the skin should be a concern for tetanus. If you have not had a tetanus shot within the last ten years I would be concern about getting one done. Tetanus can be cause from many things such as glass, metal, wood and such. Make sure that you have cleaned the wound well. Use peroxide as well as iodine and an antibiotic cream to help protect the wound. If you haven't or can't remember the last time you have had a tetanus shot head to the doctor or your local county shot clinic to get one administer.

Cotton reel with pins/nails in the top and you weave wool thru the middle?

I did this at school and am intersted in taking this up again but using silver wire for jewellery making. Its a wooden cotton reel with pins or nails in the top and you weave the wool around the pins and thru the centre forming a 'tube',any ideas what this is called and where I can get one, other than making one at home?Cotton reel with pins/nails in the top and you weave wool thru the middle?
I know what your talking about and all you need is an old thread spool and 4 tiny nails.Cotton reel with pins/nails in the top and you weave wool thru the middle?
Well French knitting is the name I know for it but there are variations. I recently bought a lucet which has two prongs but you use it in the same way but it makes a square tube. You can add beads, use more than one colour at a time and vary the length of the loop. I've just received a book called Tak V Bowes Departed A 15th Century Braiding Manual Examined by Elizabeth Bens %26amp; Gina Barrett which was recommended by the lady who introduced me to the technique.

There are also gadgets with multiple prongs which can be used to make flower shapes which can be joined together for larger items such as throws or shawls. They are a bit similar to a jewellery jig so would probably work well with wire. I have had one called a flower loom for decades but there are some new types out now including Knit-Wit and Knit-Wit for Throws by Bucilla.

It's called a knitting dolly. You can get them in craft shops everywhere. I bought a couple in the Fabric Warehouse a couple of weeks ago - one had 4 pins and the other had 6. I also use wire on these gizmos and it can be made into exciting jewelry. They cost about 拢1.50 each or you can get a mechanical gadget specifically for making wire tubes from craft shops but they are about 拢20.
