He doesn't seem to be in any pain, only when i tried to take it off. His nail was long and it happen while playing outside. What should I do?The top half of my dogs nail ripped off and the bottom is still there and its bleeding?
dip his nail in corn starch? wow
bring him to the vet it could get infected and it IS painful to your dog, dogs just know how to take pain better than us complaining humans can.The top half of my dogs nail ripped off and the bottom is still there and its bleeding?
It's happened to my dog on several occasions - it's always the 'dew claw'. Usually I don't worry - the bleeding stops and its fine. The last time, it broke further down and I was more worried so I took her to the vet after a couple of days. They neatened it up a bit, gave her some antibiotics, bandaged it and put a victorian collar on her (which she is not very good about keeping on). Anyway, it healed in a week and she is fine - for some reason this time it isn't growing back which I think is great. So, to make a long story short, I think the main concern is infection - going to a vet isn't a bad idea if you can afford it.
Well to him it might not be a issue. Though you taking it off is kinda like use taking a hang nail off. Go to your vet and explain the issue with him/her. After that make sure to trim your dog's nails. For some people they like to keep their dog's nail's short and others like myself like them longer though so you trim your dog's nail's when they reach the point you think it needs a trim.
If you can't I think your vet or a dog groomer can do it for you.
this happened to my dog also..many times now..her nails grow crazy fast! lol..put your dog in the bath and let the warm water run over the nail to get out any bacteria and then pour some peroxide on it also. then dip it in a bowl of flour and this will stop it from bleeding. this is what i always do when she breaks a nail and it works! good luck :)
Dip it in flour...That is what I do when I trim my chi's nails and I get one too short. But I would at least call your vet and explain the situation and see what they say. It shouldn't cost anything to call and ask a question. Good luck.
ok this has happend to me, dont worry, Put your dogs paw in corn starch or flour to stop bleeding and rap a old sock around the paw. this happend to my dog and the worst it happend during easter so all i had was yahoo. so please so this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
After the nail heals, trim his nails so that doesn't happen again.
